Presentation Training FAQs

For General FAQs and Booking questions, see our FAQ Page.

Helen attended a course in 2023 to prepare for a speech she was making to raise money for a charity.

We believe that guided practice is the best and fastest way to learn any new practical skill.

Our presentation courses will very quickly get you practising the skills that you are learning.

This means that our trainers will explain the theory of how to make a good presentation to you and also offer practical advice on how to implement it best when you are practising presenting.

To lead or persuade a group of any meaningful size, you need to learn to present.

Good presentation skills allow you to communicate ideas clearly to groups of people and are a key part of career development.

This means that presenting is a part of the communication skills you will need more and more as you go through your career and reach increasingly senior positions.

There is no one right way to make a presentation.

The basics of clear, engaging communication stay the same, whoever you are.

However, part of this is finding your particular presenting style, which is a combination of pace, body language, verbal intonation, using visual aids and answering questions.

Great presentations involve all of these elements, which is why presenting is such a practical skill.

You are at your most engaging when you are relaxed and presenting naturally.

This means that everyone will present slightly differently, and there is no one universal right way to make a presentation.

The key difference between presenting and public speaking is the number of people being communicated with.

When you make a presentation, you speak to a smaller (less than 100) group of people with a specific message, idea, or concept to convey.

Presenters usually allow questions during the presentation. Answering questions helps to keep your audience engaged and is a key effective presentation skill, especially difficult questions.

By contrast, public speaking is typically to large audiences.

Speeches can be about anything. Speakers will usually request that their audience keeps their questions until the end because they are usually to large audiences.

If you want to see our effective public speaking courses see this link: public speaking training.

PowerPoint is a useful tool when making a presentation but not required.

PowerPoint is widely used for a reason.

It is a very easy way to create slides to support and help structure a presentation. We use PowerPoint during our courses because people use it so frequently when making presentations.

This does not mean that you must use slides when presenting. This is not a PowerPoint presentation skills course!

Depending on your topic and the other visual aids you have available, there may be a better way to engage with your audience. We discuss how using visual aids is a key part of effective presentation skills during our courses.

We also offer PowerPoint courses which can be found here: PowerPoint Courses.
