Yes and no!

Software on Macs is usually laid out a little differently, has different shortcuts, and occasionally has slightly different functionality.

99% of what our courses cover is applicable to Macs so we often have Mac users attend our courses, but to avoid confusion, we do not use Macs in our training centres, and they are not suitable for attending our online training.

There are three main choices at Acuity Training, which all depend on your current experience and how far you want to develop.

Introduction & Intermediate (2-day course)

This is ideal if you are new to InDesign or haven’t done much with it before. It teaches you all the fundamentals of the software – the interface, text and graphics, styles, master pages and preparing documents for print or digital output. It’s designed to build your confidence so you can go about your daily tasks with confidence.

Advanced (1-day course)
Choose this level if you already use InDesign regularly and want to go beyond the basics. The advanced course focuses on more powerful and technical features – such as advanced typography, layout tools, complex page setup, interactive elements and automation techniques, all to make your workflow faster and your designs more sophisticated.

Combined (3-day option)
If you’re starting from scratch but want to reach an advanced skill level, the combined course bundles the Introduction & Intermediate and Advanced courses at a discounted price. This gives you a clear run from beginner through to advanced so you can learn everything you need even as a beginner.

Across our courses, the training focuses on the core skills needed to create, manage and output professional work.

While the depth does increase at higher levels, the general outcome of the course remains the same.

Core skills covered include:

  • Document setup and layout fundamentals
  • Working with text and typography
  • Images, graphics and links
  • Master pages and layout consistency
  • Styles and efficient editing
  • Tables and structured content
  • Preflight and error checking
  • Exporting and output

Yes. Print-ready workflows are covered across our InDesign courses.

At the Introduction and Intermediate level, you will learn the essential tools to prepare documents correctly for print. This includes setting up documents with appropriate page sizes and bleed, understanding colour modes, managing images / fonts, and exporting print-ready PDFs.

The Advanced course will expand on this and teach professional print-production practices. This includes checking through your documents with preflight, avoiding common print errors, and producing reliable PDFs outputs ready for print.

This is all designed around teaching the industry-standard InDesign workflows that UK printers expect so your skills can be applied confidently when you return to work.

Yes, accessible PDF and compliance considerations are covered within the InDesign courses.

The training explains how to build documents correctly in InDesign so they are accessibility-ready from the get-go. We ensure you use styles properly, and structure the content logically, all while preparing a layout that will export to PDF with no issues.

You’ll learn how InDesign fits into a typical workflow, and what you can handle during document creation compared to what is typically checked or refined later with other tools.

The InDesign courses are taught very hands-on, everyone will be at their own computers and go through guided examples with the trainer.

After that, you’ll get individual time to take on a task on your own, with the trainer available to help you personally.

We keep our class sizes small (max 6 delegates) to make sure everyone gets this time with the trainer.

Our regular trainer for this course is Paul. He has been training people to use layout and graphic design packages for over 30 years.

He has been focusing on training InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom and Illustrator for the last 15 years.

We are constantly on the lookout for important new features in InDesign, and updating our course to make sure it’s as current as possible.

All of our courses are taught on Windows PC’s, and use the latest version of InDesign (currently Adobe InDesign 2025 20.0).

InDesign can be used on Mac too, but has some small differences, so for simplicity everything is run on windows.

We offer 6 months of post-course supports, where you can email in and ask our InDesign pros your questions.

Going back to work and applying what you learned is key to the process, so we want to support you as much as possible through that!
