Here’s the complete syllabus for the course, covering everything you’ll learn.
- The Claude interfaces: Chat, Cowork, Chrome, Excel and PowerPoint, and what each surface does
- Models: Opus, Sonnet and Haiku, and the trade you are making between cost, speed and quality
- Claude versus other AI tools: the real differences for business owners
- How Claude processes context: what it sees in any given request and why that determines output quality
- Why Claude outputs are inconsistent, and the structural reasons behind it
- The anatomy of a high-performing prompt: role, context, task, format and constraints
- Slicing a task that is too big for one message
- Diagnosing outputs that are off-track, vague or wrong, and correcting them in the moment
- Hands-on: rebuild three prompts you currently use and test the improvement side by side
- What system prompts are and why every serious Claude user needs them
- Writing system prompts that encode your voice, standards and methodology permanently
- The difference between a prompt instruction and a system-level instruction, and when each applies
- Hands-on: write a production system prompt for your most frequently-used task
- The third layer: the prompt is what you say once, the system prompt is what you say to every task, memory is what Claude carries everywhere
- How Claude builds memory from your conversations: what it retains and how
- What to curate actively and what to prune: preferences, recurring tasks, business context, and the entries that have gone stale
- Hands-on: review, edit and strengthen your Claude memory bank
- What Skills are and how the trigger system works
- The Skills catalogue: what is most useful for business owners
- Installing a Skill, configuring it for your context, and verifying it fires correctly
- Adapting a standard Skill to your specific business, voice and working standards
- Hands-on: install three Skills relevant to your daily work, configure each one, test against real tasks
- Hands-on: build your own Skill from scratch, a prompt checker that reviews any prompt against the standards you learned this morning
- Connecting Claude to Gmail and Google Drive, or their Microsoft equivalents
- What changes: Claude stops working only on uploads and starts working where the work lives
- The data judgement, applied once per connector rather than once per task
- Hands-on: authorise your email and file connectors and prove each with a real task
- What Projects are, how they differ from standard conversations, and why they matter
- The three components: system instructions, knowledge files and conversation structure
- What belongs in system instructions versus knowledge files, and the two failure modes to avoid
- Data judgement before anything is uploaded: what is appropriate, and anonymising rather than abandoning
- Hands-on: build a complete Project using your own business content, then hand it to someone else to test
- How Cowork differs from Chat: a working session rather than a conversation
- The task loop: Describe, Plan, Execute, Steer, and where most new Cowork users go wrong
- Context front-loading: how to set up a task so it runs without going off-track
- File and document automation: reading, writing, restructuring and extracting from your own desktop files
- Working across connected systems: pulling tasks from your inbox into a tracker you actually keep
- Research and analysis at scale: multi-step research running autonomously
- Hands-on: complete a real two-step Cowork task on something you need done this wee
- Planning the five to seven workflows that should run on Claude in your business
- Setting build goals before the session starts, declared to the group
- Supervised build: the afternoon spent constructing your personal Claude operating system on real work
- Building your second complete Project, for your next-most-frequent job
- Instructor circulates throughout to review, challenge and improve what you are building
- Demo round: every delegate presents their system to the group and receives peer feedback

Claude Claude Code Advanced
AdvancedThis course takes the tools you build with Claude Code and connects them to the services you use.
-
Working with APIs in plain English
-
Building your own custom MCP server
-
Combining several services into one tool
-
Debugging, testing and hardening your build
-
Writing handoff notes for a developer
Who it’s for: For builders who've taken the Intro course, or already have a tool they've built with Claude Code.
You arrive with the app you built on the Intro course, live and on GitHub, and spend the day connecting it to the services your business already runs on.
Here’s the complete syllabus for the course, covering everything you’ll learn.
- Pulling your Intro Course project back onto your laptop from GitHub and running it locally again
- What changes when a tool stops being self-contained: other systems, other people’s data, and things that fail outside your control
- Reading a codebase you have not touched for a while, and getting Claude Code to brief you on it
- What an API is, what a request and a response look like, and how to read API documentation without being a developer
- Keys, tokens and OAuth: how a service decides to let your tool in, and where those secrets live
- Rate limits, errors and timeouts: what goes wrong with live services and how a tool should behave when it does
- Hands-on: call a live API from the terminal, then have Claude Code wrap the same call in your app
- Gmail, Slack and Google Sheets: authorising each one and proving the connection with a real read and a real write
- Choosing between a built-in Connector, a third-party MCP server and writing the call yourself
- Hands-on: extend your survey app so a new response posts to Slack and lands in a Google Sheet
- How MCP works: tools, resources and the conversation between Claude Code and a server
- When a custom server is the right answer, and when a simple script or an existing Connector is better
- Designing a server before you build it: the two or three operations it should expose, their inputs, and what they must never do
- Hands-on: build a custom MCP server for a service of your choice, connect it to Claude Code and use it from a conversation
- Scoping a workflow that crosses services: the trigger, the steps, and where a person should stay in the loop
- Scope, direct, check at the next level: breaking a multi-step build into pieces Claude Code can get right one at a time
- Scheduling and background jobs: tools that run without you pressing a button
- Hands-on: build a compound tool on your own use case, for example a weekly digest that reads a Sheet, summarises with Claude and posts to Slack or email
- A structured method: reproduce, isolate, read the logs, form a hypothesis, change one thing
- Getting Claude Code to debug with you rather than guess: what to paste, what to ask, when to stop it
- Logging and error messages that tell you what happened, written for the person who will read them at 5pm on a Friday
- Hands-on: diagnose and fix three planted faults in a connected tool, one of them in a live API call
- Testing at depth: automated tests for the logic that matters, written and run by Claude Code, and checked by you
- Security for connected tools: secrets management, least-privilege API scopes, validating what comes in, and keeping personal data out of logs and GitHub
- Reliability basics: retries, idempotency and what should happen when a service is down
- Deploying the connected version to your managed platform, with environment variables in the right place
- Documenting your build so someone else can run it: setup, secrets, how it works, how to test it, what is known to be fragile
- Hands-on: write a developer handoff document for your own project, using Claude Code to draft it from the codebase and then correcting it
- Where to take it next: what Claude Code can keep doing for you alone, and the point at which a developer earns their fee

Claude Training FAQs
As a training company, we’ve been watching and experimenting with the big AI models for years, and in our opinion:
Claude is the best AI assistant for integrating into your everyday tasks.
It uses connectors, that link Claude directly into your apps, so it can retrieve information and perform actions you approve. You don’t have to screenshot, or copy and paste information back and forth, it lives directly in a huge amount of apps. That includes, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, even your browser!
A lot of programmers and developers say Claude is their favourite LLM, but you don’t actually need to be technical to use it.
Claude Code is an AI coding agent (and included with your subscription), but there is also a normal chat interface like you have with ChatGPT or Gemini.
Claude handles long and complex work better than the rest, but it handles simple tasks just as well.
It will still guide you through it’s thought process, and explain what it’s telling you and why.
We do recommend a Claude Pro plan for all our courses.
Features like Projects, Skills, and Deep Research are all locked behind that initial subscription.
You can get started with the free version to see what it’s capable of, but you’ll need to pay to get the most out of it.
